Sam Adams

Residency Faculty

Sam Adams is a feminist art historian and the Ellen Johnson '33 Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College and Conservatory. Adams's scholarship and exhibitions center identity-based issues in recent art, particularly in performance, theater, and postwar avant-gardes. Adams has worked at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, the ICA Boston, the Getty, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and has taught at Emerson College, Tufts University, Northeastern University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Maine College of Art. Adams holds a BA from NYU and an MA and PhD from the University of Southern California, with postdoctoral studies at the Central Institute for Art History in Munich.
